The surge in stocks continued globally in Q1. All equity asset classes were positive for the quarter and US stocks and Emerging Markets were up 63% and 58% respectively for the year. The quarter was led by both Value and Small Cap stocks as investors appeared to embrace riskier assets. This is an apparent leadership change from the growth stocks that had been out performing for many quarters. Domestic Small Value stocks led the way in the quarter increasing by 21% for the quarter.
On the other hand, Bonds took a reprieve from there long rise as concerns of inflation emanated the need for the Fed to tighten and anxiety of rising rates drove yields up and prices down. Most bonds ended the quarter down except for shorter term notes and riskier bonds. The US Bond Market finished down 3.37% and Global Bond ex-US ended down 1.9%.
